I was born in the county of Essex where I served as a police officer between 1987 and 2017. A love of history coupled with a collector’s passion has caused me to study this neglected area of policing for over 30 years. During this time I have given curatorial advice to museums and collectors across the world. In 2014 I published a book 'Truncheons – An Unequal Match', detailing the development and history of the decorated truncheon and tipstaff from the eighteenth to twentieth century.
If you would like further information or help identifying a specific truncheon or tipstaff please do get in touch. Include as much detail as you can and if possible a photograph. Whilst many pieces are difficult to identify I will be happy to offer help where possible.
I am also interested in hearing about rare or interesting pieces as well as conversing with other collectors.
